Israel Friends Conference 2011

This year the annual conference of the Israel Friends of the Ghetto Fighters' House took place on Friday, December 23rd.  The even opened with the lighting of the third candle of Hanukah by Ephraim Newman, the form Director of the Northern Region of the Society and Youth Administration.  Shimuel  Guy said the blessings in the name of the Board of Directors and Dr. Anat Livne, Director of the Ghetto Fighters' House, presented the museum's plans for the coming year.  Ron Cohen, Director of the Education Department, gave a presentation of the diverse educational activities over the past year.

 
The main event of the program was a lecture given by Dr. Moshe Shner from the Oranim College entitled "Janusz Korczak and Itzhak Katzenelson:  Two models of spiritual leadership".  In his lecture, Shner presented the both leaders and how each dealt with their educational roles during the Holocaust. 

The final activity at the conference was a tour of two installments,  "Notes of Life" and "Paul Kor" at Yad Layeled that deal with art as coping mechanism, a visit to the Moshe Kupferman House  to see the permanent collection and a new exhibit entitled "Moshe Kupferman and Meir Appelfeld:  A dialogical exhibition", and finally, a tour in the footsteps of Katzenelson, Korczak and Friedl  Dicker-Brandeis. 


Present at the conference were Holocaust survivors, along with second and third generation family members of survivors, members of the Board of Directors, museum guides and staff.
