Havka Raban-Folman, who was a courier in the underground resistance, a survivor of Auschwitz and one of the founders of the Ghetto Fighters’ Kibbutz, was invited to the main Holocaust commemoration event in Madrid, Spain.  Also invited to participate was Nora Gaon, director of the Spanish Desk of the Ghetto Fighters’ House Overseas Department.  Both women were invited to take part in a conference on the subject “Resistance to the Nazi Policy:  Armed and Spiritual Resistance”, which was organized by the Casa Sefarad (the Spanish government organization responsible for Spain-Israel relations).

Havka gave testimony in front of 250 participants after Gaon gave a lecture on “Jewish Resistance during the Holocaust”.

At the official governmental ceremony at the Spanish Senate, Havka Raban-Folman lit a candle along with the Israeli emissary, Alon Bar.

Raban-Folman’s testimony was so moving that she was invited to give interviews both on television and radio, as well as tell her story to students at the Ibn Gabirol School, the only Jewish Day School in Madrid, as well as to the Jewish community, including Jewish university students.
