Itzhak Katzenelson: Zionist Educator Between Lodz and Warsaw – Educational activi

Itzhak Katzenelson represents a unique link between the two spheres of Jewish existence in Poland. Prior to the Second World War he lived in a twin world: that of the landscapes of the Land of Israel, Zionist education, and teaching the Hebrew language, and the landscapes of Poland, with its mainstream and Jewish culture.

During the wartime period Katzenelson was a central figure and guiding force in the Zionist pioneering movement’s educational activity, out of which would later develop the fighting underground. His poetry gave voice to the millions of Jews murdered in the Holocaust: his writings are an expression of the Jews’ struggle, the murderers’ curse, the protest to the world, to the vow of memory and to the vow of the continued existence of the Jewish people after the Holocaust.

The kit presents the life story of Itzhak Katzenelson, poet and educator, and offers an experiential encounter with the world of Jewish children and teenagers in Poland, in the days of its flourishing and through its extermination.
